Luxembourg city was not too far away from Vianden (being one of the tiniest countries and all). So we got settled and left to take the cold walk to the new part of the city. The new part of the city is atop a cliff of which you can only access after a long cold walk across a long and very high bridge. Despite the cold, the views were amazing. We of course shopped a bit and then resigned to visiting the German Christmas Markets (can’t escape Germany, no matter how hard you try!). We were pleasantly surprised as some of the food was much better at the Luxembourg German markets than in Germany!
Though we spent most of the day in the new part of the city. I would have to say that the best part of being high atop the cliff, is the amazing view down into the old city. The buildings are drastically different and have much more charm.
The next day we spend time exploring the old city (since all shops are closed on Sundays). It is really like stepping back in time. The colors, shapes, and sizes of the houses and buildings are so much different. The streets are cobbled and winding. So pretty!
Afterwards, we ducked into a cafe to warm up and managed to stumble across a jazz concert which was a great treat! All in all, it was a lovely weekend getaway!
