Burano, Italy

Burano

Burano is a little fishing island about 45 minutes by boat from the main island of Venice.  I wasn’t sure if we should make the journey out there, but am glad that we made the right decision.  The island is absolutely tiny.  You can probably walk all the way around in about 30 minutes.  But that doesn’t take away from how beautiful it is.  Every house is painted a bright color, nothing matches, and everywhere is tidy and clean.  You can just imagine a little community of people living here, hanging their washing out to dry and just popping down to the neighbors to share the lastest gossip.

Though theres not many sights to see nor is the gelato very good, its well worth a visit for the view of the houses alone and a lovely boat ride in the summer sun.

Doors of Venezia

doorDoor

I’ve developed a slight obsession with doors and doorways after my travels.

Everywhere you look there are amazingly rustic, old, crumbling, peeling, rotting and bright doors.  Its kinda hard to not be amazed every time you walk down a gorgeously windy street and see the crooked and bulging buildings and wonder how they’re still standing.  Then you turn and see the old worn away knockers on an ancient looking wooden door. I’m so intrigued about the history of each of the houses and who could possibly be living there now.   Amazing.  Love it!
